Few details from this weekend’s games were made available at press time.
Friday, February 15, 2013 Briercrest defeated St. Mary’s men’s basketball 97-78.
This from head coach Rod Adrian.
“The men move to 18-1 with a win over St. Mary’s University College with a balanced attack and some solid defense. Led by Kendell Boese with a triple double and earning Player of the Game with his team leading 11 rebounds, 10 assists, and added 17 points. Gradyn Childerhose led the team in scoring with 23, James Wohlgeschaffen ended with 15, and Matt Myers and Christian Sacoman each had 13. We shot a blistering 50% from beyond the arc, and scored 1.02 points per possession. We turned the ball over a season low 15 times.
Read 1 John 3:1-7 to see what we learned about being children of God and practicing righteousness – we all have a long way to go on this journey.
Once again the alumni in the Calgary area were out in force supporting the team – big thanks!”
Saturday, February 16, 2013 Briercrest defeated St. Mary’s 85-79.
Coach Adrian shared his observations.
“In a tight game the men prevailed to earn their 19th win in the final game of our regular season. We were led on the defensive end by Player of the Game Caleb Klassen, who did a nice job of controlling the pace of the game leading the team with four assists. As a team we held our opponent to just 29% shooting. We struggled on the offensive end too, just shooting 35%, but controlled the ball with just 14 team turnovers which translated into 1.2 points per possession (season high). In their final regular season games, fifth year players Gradyn Childerhose and Matt Myers each recorded double doubles with 28 points, 14 rebounds and 10 points, 10 rebounds respectively, and Kendell Boese added 17 points.
“We finished the season with a 19-1 record, ending with a 14 game winning streak, securing our #1 ranking in the ACAC and CCAA, and have grown together as a team. I’m so thankful to the leaders on our team, and our freshmen class that have contributed day in and day out in practice making everyone better.”
