Despite a valiant effort, the Briercrest women’s basketball team ends their season at home with a 37-57 loss to the Trojans.
Getting points up in the first quarter took time, SAIT advancing first, scoring a three after three minutes of play, 3-0. Briercrest’s first points came off a free throw, following with  multiple interrupted points to put Briercrest up 5-3. Briercrest demonstrated solid rebounding, Claire Richardson and Tracy Frimpong heading up that track. Briercrest continued to extend their lead 8-5 before SAIT pulled back in front, leaving Briercrest behind 8-12.

Frimpong ducked in for Briercrest’s first bucket of the second quarter. Nicole Meyer sunk a three from the corner to bring Briercrest just back of SAIT, 14-15. Despite Briercrest’s quick passing offense, SAIT began to pull away, multiple threes helping extend their lead even further, ending the first half up on Briercrest 28-16.

The third quarter opened with Meyer dropping in another three. Despite a continued defensive effort, SAIT began to stretch further out, ending the third quarter ahead of Briercrest 47-29.

With many of Briercrest’s players out prior, their bench was quite limited, the women giving a solid fight as many of them stayed on all game.

Briercrest continued their struggle against SAIT, matching them bucket for bucket, but unable to gain any ground. They concluded their season at home dropping 57-37 to SAIT.

Players of the were SAIT’s Alexandra Bean with one steal, two assists, four rebounds and nine points and Briercrest’s Claire Richardson at her last home game as a Clipper with one steal, two blocks, one assist, a game high of 19 rebounds and eight points. Congratulations Claire!
