Last weekend concluded the season for men’s soccer, the team finished their season strong, winning their PAC conference title for the first time. This is only the second year for the soccer programs at Briercrest and already the team has shown they are a great addition to athletics.

During the season, the team went 5-0-0 in their league and 7-0-1 in pre-season and tournaments. This year the team had a lot of success and improved tremendously from last season when they were winless. As coach Cody Vigeant explains “this year our program has been very blessed. Last year was a steep learning curve, but the veterans that came back worked hard in the off-season because they knew what was expected of them this year to succeed.  We had a very good off-season in terms of player recruitment and we were able to bring in some very valuable, important pieces not only for this year, but hopefully for the program moving forward.”

In their conference championship weekend, the men continued their hard work by winning the semi-finals 4-2. Niko Hendriks got 3 goals for Brierecrest while Calvin Burton netted the other, advancing to the finals. In the championship game, coach Vigeant described it as a “tricky one for the guys to focus on due to the fact that they've seen Millar college on other occasions this season… we stressed the importance of limiting the oppositions’ opportunities and capitalizing on the ones given and I think we executed that game plan extremely well.” Brierecrest in the end defeated Millar College 3-1 for the PAC title, Calvin Burton, Adam McNeil and Niko Hendricks contributed to Briercret’s goals with Nick Omoya assisting 2 of the goals. Niko Hendricks was also named the PAC 2017 finals MVP.

In all, coach Vigeant summed up the season saying the boys showed that soccer at Briercrest College is not just moving forward, but thriving as well, “these guys have laid the groundwork for hopefully some big things to come in the future”
