He and his wife, Carolyn (Nelson, College ’84), received Briercrest College and Seminary’s Alumni of the Year award on Friday, April 24, after which they addressed the class of 2009 in the Hildebrand Chapel:
“I developed a love for the Bible here,” said Carolyn. “It shook up the foundations of my life, and that’s stayed with me ever since.”
Bruce said he learned about entire consecration—“to give anything, any time, anywhere.”
Both Bruce and Carolyn went on to apply what they’d learned shortly after graduation. They met while working for Youth for Christ and married in 1986, going on to work at Camp Cedarwood before God called them to do graduate work at Regent College. Bruce later earned his doctorate at Oxford University and became a research fellow at Christ Church in Oxford.
Bruce and Carolyn began teaching at Briercrest College and Seminary in 1994 and moved on to teach at Regent in 2001. Bruce is the James M. Houston Chair of Spiritual Theology there, and he publishes regularly. Carolyn teaches introductory Greek, and they are both active members of St. John’s Shaughnessy Anglican Church.
