2014 Engage Conference

Come. Hear. Do. (Luke 6:47)

A Christ-centred, intergenerational, and experiential conference-retreat
March 14-15, 2014

What? Engage 2014 invites participants to experience and explore mutually transformative Christ-centered intergenerational encounters.

Who? For leaders, young or old, paid or volunteer, who, along with a member of another generation, want to discuss and discover ways to address the bleeding of the younger generations from the church.

Note: We are asking participants to come in "pairs"-one of which should be roughly in the "millennial" category (18-34 years old) and one which is older.

Where? Briercrest College & Seminary, Caronport, Saskatchewan

Why? Briercrest College & Seminary's Engage is an intergenerational project to discuss why young adults were or were not staying connected to the Church of their childhood. Last year eighty students, young adults, ministry leaders, faculty and staff took part in a strategic series of presentations and round table conversations intended to validate the Hemorrhaging Faith study. Since that conference, we have become convinced that the most important thing we can do to address the faith exodus of the millennial generation is to Come to Christ, Hear His Word, and Do what He tells us to do (cf. Luke 6:47).

Engage 2014 will be a "conference-retreat" style event for 150 participants. We are setting aside two days for an intensive experience and exploration of mutually transformative Christ-centered intergenerational conversations between older and younger followers of Christ.
Let's seek the answers together. We will do our utmost to help you engage in fruitful conversations that could be transformative in how you think about your discipleship and your ministry. With a combination of presentations, workshops, preaching, guided conversation, fellowship and worship, we are anticipating and praying that God will move in our midst in spectacular ways.

Key note presenters:

  • James Penner, youth sociologist & principal researcher/author of Hemorrhaging Faith
  • David Sawler, pastor, church planter, youth research, author of Goodbye Generation and Before They Say Goodbye.

  • Hemorrhaging Faith study
  • Faith Today issue (May/June) has an article on the Hemorrhaging Faith study and some good coverage about Briercrest's Engage 2013 think-tank. Iona Snair (our alumnus of the year), Lee Young (seminary grad 2013), and Ryan Matchett (Engage 2013 participant), along with yours truly, were all interviewed for this article.
