Leadership and Management

Master of Arts

Students are trained to provide exemplary Christian leadership and managerial support to local and international organizations. Graduates of the program are equipped to plan, organize, lead, and direct not-for-profit organizations, churches, schools, and mission organizations in a variety of settings.

The Master of Arts in Leadership and Management (MALM) is a professional degree designed to prepare students for exemplary Christian leadership and managerial support to local, regional, national and international organizations. Graduates of the program are equipped to plan, organize, lead, and direct nonprofit organizations, churches, schools, mission organizations and for-profit organizations in a variety of settings. The MALM is well-suited for students who have an interest and are gifted in the art and science of leadership. Individuals who desire to make a significant contribution in a variety of leadership roles will find themselves challenged as they expand their understanding and skills as a leader in the twenty-first century. An added feature of this program is that each student will be guided toward the development of a leadership specialization or accreditation that equips them to take their leadership to the next level.

Anticipated Outcomes

  1. Articulate an evangelical theology that demonstrably arises out of Scripture and finds expression in all areas of life and ministry.
  2. Be equipped for serving in the local church and its global mission.
  3. Be recognized as a mature disciple of Jesus Christ.

MALM graduates will be able to:

  1. Carefully integrate biblical and theological studies in the field of leadership.
  2. Articulate a set of best practice strategic leadership/management practices in regard to personal, corporate and relational contexts.
  3. Demonstrate the necessary growth in their leadership and knowledge to move to the next appropriate level of leadership.

Graduation Requirements

  • Complete the 60 credit hour program of studies as outlined
  • Achieve a minimum of a 2.50 cumulative grade point average on a 4.00 scale
  • Complete at least 30 hours of this program through Briercrest Seminary
  • Successfully complete a Portfolio and Interview
  • Receive the recommendation of the seminary faculty
  • Complete all program requirements within 10 years of beginning studies
  • Meet all financial obligations to the seminary

Paul Magnus, PhD

Paul has been engaged in leadership roles and leadership instruction within and beyond the Christian higher education community for over four decades. Much of that time was spent at Briercrest College and Seminary, and after his time here, he served in two churches and later as the R.J. Bernardo Family Chair of Leadership at Tyndale Seminary in Toronto. He has also served the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada in various volunteer roles for over 25 years, most recently as the chairman of their board.

He continues to be passionate about leadership, communication, and executive and ministry coaching that equips, empowers, and enables the next generation's leaders for the church and the marketplace.
