Six CHS students took the chance to become world travellers during this year’s Easter break.

The group, along with three CHS staff members and one parent joined a group of 33 other Saskatchewan students for a tour of London and Paris. They went with Education First (EF) tours.

“This is a trip that your average big high school would do,” said AJ Crocker, CHS Chaplain and chaperone for the Europe tour. “Everything you’re supposed to do when you go to Paris and London we did.”

Students took in sights such as Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Piccadilly Square, Moulin Rouge, Abbey Road, Westminster Cathedral, and other famous places.

“My favourite spot was the hill of Montmartre,” said Grade 12 student Kayla Lewry. “This is where the Moulin Rouge is located and up the hill they have markets, live musicians, and artists who will sketch you for 20-30 euros. It was a super awesome place to hang out … it felt like they had preserved the culture of that specific place really well.”

My favorite place we went to in France was Saint-Malo,” said Grade 12 student Alicia Havanka. “It was this little town we stayed at and it was so beautiful. We got to go shopping for one night and it was like streets just filled with shops and music and artists and it really felt like France from movies that we always see.”

Crocker said that amid all the famous landmarks, the one that impacted him most was Vimy Ridge a memorial commemorating Canadian soldiers killed in France during World War I who have no known grave.

“That was quite sobering,” Crocker remembered. “(It’s) so important to our existence and our identity. It’s something every Canadian needs to experience and so few get to.”
