Korean student's compassion led her to a counselling degree

When asked why she chose the M.A. in Marriage and Family Counselling at Briercrest College and Seminary, Younju replies with a smile, “Ask God.”

“I have compassion to care for people with broken hearts,” she says.

Younju Seo (Rachel Kim) came to Briercrest with her husband, Sung Eun, and their sons, Yusung and Hyesung, from Korea in 2003 after hearing about the school and the community from her brother-in-law.

Younju is grateful for her time in Caronport. “I appreciate all the friendship and fellowship I had in Caronport,” she says. “I met many angel-like people while I was living there.”

Currently, Younju is interning at a counseling centre and volunteering at her church in Waterloo, Ont., where her husband is a pastor. She hopes to pursue doctoral work in counseling and begin working with prisoners, people struggling with grief, and international university students in her area.
