Men's hockey gets ready to win

Coach Terry Dyck is excited about a new opportunity as he takes the reigns of the Briercrest Clipper hockey team this year.

He has a solid 15 returning players from last year’s squad and is excited about the 10 rookies the team has added.

“I believe we will have a real balanced attack this year,” said Coach Dyck. He feels “all his players this year will be in situations to succeed.”

Leading the way for the 2010-11 Clippers will be Captain Josh Dueck, who is heading into his fifth and final year of eligibility. Dueck will be supported by Josh Gustafson, Craig Cornelson, and Aaron Frede as assistant captains.

Coach Dyck feels that with their leadership and balanced attack, they will be able to win 12-15 games this year:

“I am excited about our opportunity to be successful as a team, with wins to support that,” he said.

So far, the Clippers are 4-1 during the pre-season. The team opened up with a pair of games against alumni teams as part of the annual Briercrest Athletics Alumni Reunion Weekend, which took place September 10 and 11.

After winning both of those games, they travelled to Weyburn to take on the Red Wings (Junior A) on September 13, where they lost a close game 4-2.

They hosted Minot State University on September 17 and 18, coming away with a pair of hard-fought victories.

The Clippers will wrap up their exhibition season with the SAIT Trojans' preseason tournament October 1 and 2.
