Men's hockey plays in Calgary

Posted: October 14, 2010

Even though it will be a quiet weekend in the Barkman Arena and Margaret P. Reimer Gymnasium, there will be plenty of exciting Clipper action elsewhere!

Men’s hockey is travelling to Calgary to take on the SAIT Trojans in their second weekend of regular season action. The Clippers started the season off with a tie and a loss last weekend vs the Mount Royal University Cougars.

Jesse Chenard, the Clippers' goalie, was named the ACAC male athlete of the week for his outstanding play, namely his 63-save performance that helped his team earn the tie during the home opener last Friday.

SAIT is off to a 2-0 start to their regular season. They're typically one of the strongest teams in the ACAC, so this will be another good test for men’s hockey. Friday’s game starts at 7:00 p.m., with Saturday’s rematch at 2:00 p.m.

Men’s basketball team is on the road to Manitoba this weekend, where they will compete in an exhibition tournament in Winnipeg. They have games against Canadian Mennonite University, University of Manitoba, and the University of Winnipeg. Game times are 4:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and then 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. This will be some strong competition for the young, talented Clipper squad as they prepare for the upcoming regular season.

Both the Clipper Men’s and Women’s basketball teams will open up their regular season at home next weekend (October 22 and 23) against Red Deer College.

The men’s Volleyball team will wrap up their pre-season at the Mount Royal University tournament in Calgary this weekend with matches against Red Deer College, NAIT, SAIT, and the host Mount Royal Cougars. This will be a great final pre-season tune up for the team as they face most of the top teams in the ACAC this weekend. They, along with the women’s volleyball team (who wrapped up their pre-season with a big win over Minot State University Wednesday night), will start their regular season on the road in Fort McMurray next weekend.

For you volleyball fans who will be in Calgary this weekend, you won’t want to miss this tournament as your Clippers go head-to-head with the best in the ACAC!

Check out the games if you're in town!
