Home openers for Briercrest basketball

Posted: October 19, 2010

All five of your Briercrest Clipper teams are in action this weekend, with three teams playing here at home.

Men’s and women’s basketball are opening up their regular season at home against Red Deer College, while the men’s hockey is heading into their third weekend of regular season and will be hosting the NAIT Ooks.

The volleyball teams are starting their 2010-2011 regular season on the road at Keyano College in Fort McMurray.

Briercrest Basketball
It will be an exciting weekend in the Margaret P. Reimer Gymnasium as the Clipper basketball teams host their home opener. Both teams have had a strong pre-season, with the ladies winning all of their pre-season contests and the men proving to be very competitive against some very good university teams in their pre-season games. These will be the first games of the regular season for Red Deer and the first games for the Clippers against ACAC teams. All of the pre-season action for both teams was against opponents from outside their conference. This will be an exciting match up to start the season as both teams look to jump out to a positive start in the standings!

Game times for basketball this weekend are as follows:

Friday, October 22: Women at 6:00 p.m., men at 8:00 p.m.

Saturday, October 23: Women at 1:00 p.m., men at 3:00 p.m.

Come out and cheer on your Clipper basketball teams in their 2010-2011 home openers!

Briercrest Hockey
Men’s hockey is coming off a tough weekend on the road against the SAIT Trojans, where they lost both games. They will be facing another strong opponent this weekend as they host the NAIT Ooks. The team is looking to rebound with a strong performance at home against the Ooks, who are tied for second place in the ACAC. We expect a hard-hitting, intense weekend on the ice, so come out and be a part of the action!

The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. in the Barkman Arena on Friday, with the rematch at 2:00 PM on Saturday.

Briercrest Volleyball
The men’s and women’s volleyball teams have their longest road trip of the regular season on their opening weekend as they travel to take on the Keyano College Huskies in Fort McMurray. The veteran men’s team, who are returning six out of seven starters from last season’s ACAC silver medal team, are looking to be in fine form heading into the regular season, having defeated most of their opponents in pre-season matches.

The ladies have come together well in their pre-season, despite losing four starters from last year’s roster. Their young talent and potential is starting to show, as they wrapped up their pre-season with a big win over the Minot State University Beavers last week. It will be an exciting start to the regular season up in Fort McMurray!

Game times will be at 6:00 p.m. (women) and 8:00 p.m.(men) on Friday, with the rematches at 5:00 p.m. (women) and 7:00 p.m. (men) on Saturday.
