Women's volleyball preseason heats up

The Briercrest women’s volleyball team is heading into their 2010-2011 regular season on a high note. They defeated the Minot State University Beavers 3-1 in their final pre-season match on Wednesday.

Head Coach Nolan Weinmaster was pleased to see his team come together:

“It was great to see the girls executing well and playing together as a team. We have had a lot of learning to do this pre-season, and this was a great match for our girls to see the hard work they have been putting in start to  pay off,” he said.

The women’s volleyball team has had an up and down pre-season in terms of wins and losses and in terms of consistency of play.

“We knew there was going to be a lot of learning to do with us having lost four starters from last year’s team, so we have tried to stay patient and focus on the process of getting better and doing the things it takes to win.”

Before Wednesday’s win, the Clippers had a record of five wins and 12 losses during their exhibition season. They have faced a lot of competition from their strong ACAC conference and from some Manitoba Colleges and NAIA colleges in North Dakota.

“Minot State was one of the teams we had lost to early in their pre-season,” Weinmaster said, "so it was a big confidence-builder for them to see how much they have improved over the last five weeks. We have done a lot of experimenting with different lineups and have missed some key players due to injury, so it was fun to see a starting lineup come together and play consistently together in this match.”

The Clippers are hoping the win will propel them to more success in the regular season ahead.
