Dare Mably enters third season with the Clippers

Dare Mably is entering his third season with the Briercrest Clippers. Having grown up in Okotoks, Alta., where he grew up with a sister, two brothers, and his parents, Bev and Dan, Dare wanted to come to Briercrest because “it is a Christian school with a good hockey team.”

The journey that led him to Briercrest included a lot of success with hockey at a young age.

Mably began playing hockey when he was four years old and won a bantam AA championship in 2000, and then back-to-back midget AA championships in 2001 and 2002. Those championships have been highlights in Dare’s career, with the most memorable one being his first in 2000.

Before joining the Clippers, he played Jr. B for the High River Flyers, in High River, Alta., for the 2003-04 season.

Dare has had a great experience so far in his career with Briercrest hockey.

“I really enjoy the atmosphere here. It’s a great bunch of guys and a lot of fun,” he said.

He is pursuing an AA in Social Sciences in the college, and he hopes to eventually earn a degree in psychology. Mably takes his academics seriously and works just as hard in the classroom as he does on the ice. He recently received an ACAC academic award for excellence in his studies.

He said that he enjoys studying at Briercrest because of the atmosphere in classes,  the interaction with the professors, and personal attention that students receive.

During his time at Briercrest, Dare has had a couple of unique experiences that have been significant in his life. One of those was a missions trip to Belize in 2006, and then more recently to Russia in 2008.

When not in the classroom or on the ice, the 5’ 9” forward enjoys skateboarding and snowboarding.
