Women's Vball vs. GPRC

Posted: December 1, 2011

The women sporting the “B” played host to Grand Prairie this weekend and came out of the gate firing. Carlee Leclerc was on fire to start the game with 3 impressive blocks followed by 2 serves the opposition couldn’t handle she quickly catapulted Briercrest to a 10-4 lead. The girls were playing fantastic and running away with the game with kills coming from Streuber, Schenderling, and Reinhardt. The Wolves would eventually start trying to mount a comeback and closed the game to within four points. Brooke Peterson would get Briercrest back on track with a nice dig and then later keeping a blocked ball alive. Briercrest would win 25-20 with the Hanger getting in on the action for the game winning point.

The next set wouldn’t start out quite as nice when the Clippers found themselves down 3-0 but Mikayla Reinhardt would put a ball down the line with authority to get some momentum going. The early game stayed tight with some really nice rallies and good defense by both sides, Ashley Streuber would make a nice block straight down, and on the following play Peterson made a great diving effort to keep the ball alive and Briercrest would stay within three points of the Wolves. Later in the set Chantal Bruce would crush an untouched shot down the line, holding the Wolf lead to three again. Unfortunately that is how the game would end, with the Wolves carrying their three point lead to a 25-22 win.

Grand Prairie carried their momentum over into the third set again jumping out to a lead. Captain Aryn Lesher would make a great dig to calm her team down and later kills from Reinhardt and Bruce would pull the ladies to within four. Ariel Townsend came into the game roughly half way though and made an immediate impact with three consecutive digs on one long rally that would eventually end in a Clipper point. Streuber helped Briercrest make a push near the end with a great tip to the open spot and a block to make it 23-20 Wolves but that was as close as they would get. 25-20 Grand Prairie

In the fourth set the Wolves would come out quickly building a 7-1 lead and Briercrest wouldn’t be able to recover eventually losing 25-15.

On Saturday the games were excruciatingly close but wouldn’t yield a better result as Briercrest would go down in three sets, 25-23, 27-25, 25-23. Some of the highlights would include Nielsen coming into the first set and making a big block on her first play of the game and following it up with an absolute blast a couple points later. Briercrest was playing hard, fighting for every point with Lesher even crashing into the ref’s stand to save a ball, that would eventually end in a Briercrest point. Chantel Bruce showed off a heavy serve that the Wolves had difficulty handling and sent a few of their hands straight into the Hanger. Ashley Streuber would cap the weekend by smashing a ball off the side of the defenders face for a point.

Although they didn’t get the results they wanted the girls entertained the crowd with some tight matches.
