The Briercrest Men’s Hockey Team played their first two regular season games this past weekend, October 12-13, as they took on the SAIT Trojans.

Friday night’s game had some positive aspects as Branden Whitehawk scored the first goal of the game, and his first career ACAC goal, (assisted by Adam Voth) to give Briercrest a short-lived 1-0 lead. As the game went on Briercrest got down early, but battled hard to show that they will not go down without a fight. Jesse Chenard and Christian Mueller combined for 41 saves in the 11-1 loss.

Turning to Saturday, Briercrest got down 1-0 early but Branden Whitehawk was able to tie it up with his second goal (unassisted) in as many games. SAIT quickly replied with two more goals in the opening frame, but Briercrest held them to only one goal in the second period. It was a hard fought effort for Briercrest but in the end they fell to the Trojans 7-1. Jesse Chenard made 44 saves in the losing effort.

There was stellar work from the goaltenders Jesse Chenard  and Christian Mueller as they faced a lot of rubber over the weekend.

Next up for Briercrest Hockey is their home opener next weekend as they host NAIT Ooks at 7 pm at the Barkman Arena.
