Briercrest women's rally falls short against Augustana

The second regular season game for the Briercrest women’s basketball team was against Augustana Vikings. Augustana started the game with a full-court press defense against Briercrest, putting a lot of pressure on the women early in the game. Hard work from co-captain Brittany Larson at point guard carrying the ball up the court against the strong Augustana defense alongside Claire Richardson scoring four points to finish the first quarter with a score of 12-24 for Augustana.
The Vikings continued the full court press into the second quarter, forcing Briercrest to make quick decisions and forcing turnovers. Meghan Meyer made two field-goal shots as well as two points from Tracy Frimprong to add six points in the quarter finishing the half at 18-42 in favour of the Augustana Vikings.
In the third quarter, co-captain Claire Richardson completed three shots for Briercrest providing six points and hard play on defense. Briercrest continued to battle hard, winning the quarter 17-16, and the Vikings held a 35-58 lead.
Great play came from Larson in the fourth scoring eight points in the quarter. The women finished the quarter strong and outscored the opponent 21-14 in the quarter.
Player of the game for Augustana Vikings was Kelsey Lund with 18 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks. Player of the game for Briercrest Clippers was Brittany Larson with twelve points, two rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Notable play for Briercrest was Claire Richardson with thirteen points and six rebounds, and Tracy Frimpong with eight points.
Briercrest hits the road next weekend traveling to Grande Prairie Regional College on Nov. 2 and the King's University College on Nov.3. Both games are at 6:00 pm.
