Split with Olds makes coming weeks even more interesting for volleyball team

Briercrest’s spit with Olds over the weekend ensures that every game the rest of the regular season has huge playoff ramifications.

On Friday, January 18, Briercrest defeated Olds 3-1 (17-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-22). They were led by Player of the game Whitney Zylstra’s nine kills, two stuff blocks and one dig.

Briercrest held the edge in kills 32 to 27, while Olds had two service aces to Briercrest’s one, 34 digs to Briercrest 25, and eight blocks compared to Briercrest’s six. Other Briercrest leaders were Elly Wendel with 9 kills, Mikayla Reinhardt with Briercrest’s lone service ace, Jocelyn Nielsen and Brooke Peterson with a team leading six digs each, and Erin Anderson with a game high three blocks.

Briercrest kept taking the lead on Saturday night, but a scrappy Olds team kept bouncing back finally defeating Briercrest 3-2 (17-25, 25-18, 19-25, 25-19, 18-16).

Brooke Peterson was the player of the game with a staggering game high 19 digs, 70% three passes, and a 2.5 passing average.

Briercrest once again held the edge in kills 37 to 28, but also in every other statistical category one to zero for aces, 51 to 41 for digs and seven to six for blocks. Stat leaders for Briercrest were Mikayla Reinhardt and Elly Wendel with a game high 11 kills each, Amanda Lundquist with the only service ace of the game, the aforementioned Peterson and her 19 digs, and Elly Wendel with a game high three blocks.
