Volleyball

This weekend will be the last home-stand of the ACAC regular season for the Briercrest volleyball teams. Starting libero Pablo Acuna will also be recognized as a graduating student-athlete.

After a weekend sweep of Olds the Briercrest men's volleyball team faces one of their stiffest challenges of the ACAC regular season by hosting the CCAA fourth ranked SAIT Trojans. After a sweep at the hands of Red Deer College, SAIT dropped to third place in the ACAC standing, one win behind CCAA 11th ranked Briercrest. This weekend will have huge playoff ramifications as two of the top four teams in the ACAC jockey for position. Briercrest is currently riding a 12 game ACAC winning streak, while SAIT is coming off their first two losses of the season. This weekend will also mark the return of three former Briercrest players in James Demspey, Zac Ens and recent ACAC career kills record holder Scott Lesher.

The women are also in a tight playoff race where every team they face during the last three weekends of regular season are in the playoff hunt, starting with a SAIT team that has an identical 6-8 record. Briercrest and SAIT are currently tied for ninth place, only two wins out of fifth and three wins out of fourth place in the tight ACAC standings. The top six teams get a bye to the ACAC Championship, so a strong weekend can bring that dream a little bit closer to reality.

All games will be played at the Margaret P. Reimer Memorial Gymnasium in Caronport. The women will hit the floor at 6:00 pm on Friday and 1:00 pm on Saturday, while the men will follow at 8:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Games will also be broadcast online at http://www.sportscanada.tv/index.php/briercrest-clippers. Also, be sure to "like" Briercrest Volleyball for photos and updates.

Basketball

Briercrest basketball travels to Calgary to face the SAIT Trojans Jan. 25-26.

After a weekend sweep over Olds College, coupled with Red Deer's split with Lethbridge, Briercrest men's basketball find themselves alone at the top of the ACAC standings with a 11-1 record. They have also been recognized as the second ranked team in the newest CCAA rankings. SAIT currently sits fifth in the south and tenth in the ACAC, but can not be taken lightly as they are one of only two teams to defeat CCAA fourth ranked Red Deer College this season.

After a tough sweep at the hands of a tough Olds College and CCAA top scorer Jylisa Williams, things don't get any easier for Briercrest women's basketball as they face ACAC fifth ranked, and ACAC South leading SAIT (9-5). With a 2-10 record Briercrest is tied for fourth place in the ACAC South.
