Women’s basketball finishes up season with exciting sweep of St. Mary’s

Briercrest women's basketball swept St. Mary's to finish the season with a 5-15 record. The young team posted the best record since 2000-01, the last time Briercrest made the playoffs with an 8-12 record.

 

Friday, February 15, 2013 Briercrest defeated St. Mary’s women’s basketball 64-45.

This from head coach Chad Romanuk.

“The game was very exciting taking the lead after the first quarter 19-6. Losing the second quarter by two we finished off the rest of the game winning the second half 32-28.

“Player of the game was Hannah Klassen ending with 50% shooting percentage scoring 11 points and four rebounds, giving our team the early lead out of the gate.

“Tracy Frimpong played well as well, grabbing 10 boards, nine points in only 18 minutes.

“We also had a strong showing by Karly Goertzen, Makayla Bryson, and Melissa Kelsey all shooting over 50%. And Claire Richardson and Meghan Meyers each with 6 boards.”

 

Saturday, February 16, 2013 Briercrest defeated St. Mary’s 60-43.

Coach Romanuk shared his thoughts on the game.
“Player of the game was Karly Goertzen. She had four points, four boards, three of them being offensive and one assist. Those points and boards were at crucial times in the game, when the score was close.”
“Claire Richardson had 16 points, nine boards, two assists, three blocks, and two steals in 31 minutes of play.
“Tracy Frimpong had 12 points on 6 for 11 shooting, eight boards and two steals.
“It was a slow start losing the first quarter 13-12. But, ended up winning the next three quarters.”
