Hockey hosts NAIT while court sports hit the road again

Men's hockey hosts NAIT for week three of the ACAC schedule, men's and women's basketball travle to Manitoba, women's volleyball travels to Edmonton for the MacEwan University Women's Volleyball Tournament, and men's volleyball is the lone Briercrest team with a bye week. Hockey

After obtaining their first point of the season in an exciting overtime loss to perrenial powerhouse Augustana things don't get any easier as the Briercrest hockey team hosts ACAC defending champion's NAIT this weekend at the Barkman Arena. After two weekends of high scoring hockey this weekend could be a shift in style as NAIT is leading the league with only two goals against this season. After playing three games this season NAIT sits in second place with a 2-0-1 record.

Game times are 7:00 pm Friday, Oct . 11 and 2:00 pm Saturday, Oct. 12. Both games are at the Barkman Arena and can be viewed on SportsCanada.tv.

Basketball

Both Briercrest basketball travel to Manitoba this weekend for exhibition games against the Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) and Providence University College to end the 2013-14 exhibition schedule.

The women open up the weekend Friday, Oct. 11 in Winnipeg against CMU at 6:00 pm local time (5:00 pm in Saskatchewan) before travelling to Otterburne, MB for a Saturday, Oct. 12 noon (11:00 am SK time) match-up with Providence. This will be a great opportunity for the Briercrest women to continue to gell and grow as a team before kicking off the ACAC season next weekend.

After a weekend sweep of ACAC opponents in the ACAC Pre-Season Showcase in Edmonton this past weekend, the men's basketball team now heads east to face some Manitoba competition. They begin the weekend in Winnipeg Friday, Oct. 11 at 8:00 pm local time (7:00 pm SK time) against CMU before concluding the weekend against Providence on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 2:00 pm (1:00 pm SK time), in Otterburne, MB.

These games will be the last taste of pre-season for the basketball teams before they host Lethbridge College Oct. 18-19 for the Home Opener and Alumni weekend. Be sure to "like" Briercrest Basketball for photos and updates.

Volleyball

Briercrest women’s volleyball continues their busy pre-season in Edmonton this weekend for the MacEwan University Women's Volleyball Tournament. They open the tournament against Grande Prairie Regional College at 8:00 pm on Friday, Oct. 11. The tournament continues Saturday, Oct. 12 with a 11:00 am contest against the Grant MacEwan Alumni, followed by a 7:00 pm game against SAIT. Tournament playoffs will then be played on Sunday, Oct. 13, starting at 9:00 am. All games will be played at Grant MacEwan University.

The Briercrest men's volleyball team joins the rest of the ACAC men's volleyball teams in taking the Thanksgiving weekend off as a bye week before the ACAC season kicks off Oct. 18 with a match between NAIT and Lakeland.
