Women claw back to get the split with Griffins

After a Friday evening loss the Briercrest women's volleyball team came back strong to defeat Grant MacEwan on Saturday.

Briercrest women's volleyball lost 3-0 (27-25, 25-23, 25-18) Friday, Oct. 25.

Though GMU won in three straight sets, the stats reveal a very close game with Briercrest holding a very slight edge in kills, aces and digs, while GMU held an eight to five edge in blocks.

Player of the Game for Briercrest on Friday night was Elly Wendel (nine kills, a game high five service aces, eight digs, team high two blocks).

Other top Briercrest performers Friday night were Starlet Peterson with a team high 10 kills and Brooke Peterson with a game high 14 digs.

Briercrest bounced back on Saturday to defeat Grant MacEwan 3-1 (25-14, 25-21, 18-25, 25-17).

Briercrest held the edge in every statistical category except blocks, where MacEwan had nine to Briercrest’s five. Kills were 44-31, aces were nine to three and digs were 76 to 64 in Briercrest’s favour.

Player of the game for Briercrest was Starlet Peterson who had eight kills, a game high three service aces, and 16 digs.

Other Briercrest high performers were Elly Wendel with a game high 12 kills, Brooke Peterson with a game high 21 digs and Erin Anderson with a game high three blocks.

The team returns home for their home opener and alumni weekend against Medicine Hat College next weekend, November 1-2, 2013.
