After two straight weekends with no games on campus, this weekend will be a very busy and competitive for Briercrest Athletics, both at home and away. After their recording their first win of the season the Briercrest hockey team will be back at the Barkman Arena to host Keyano, while volleyball hosts Grande Prairie and the basketball teams travel to Edmonton to face Grant MacEwan and NAIT.

Hockey

Coming off an exciting 3-2 victory over Concordia this last weekend, for their first victory of the season, the Briercrest hockey team returns to the Barkman Arena to host Keyano College Nov. 22-23.

This will be an exciting weekend as Briercrest and Keyano have identical 1-12-1 records and look to use this weekend to gain on the rest of the ACAC in the standings. The teams have the two worst stats for goals for and against this season, so will be really well matched up. One fairly large difference between the two teams that could play a factor is disipline as Keyano, with 416 penalty minutes this season, is the most penalized team in the ACAC while Briercrest, with only 202 penalty minutes, has been one of the most disciplined teams in the league.

Game times will be 7:00 pm on Friday, Nov. 22 and 2:00 pm Saturday, Nov. 23. Both games will be played at the Barkman Arena.

Volleyball

After two straight weekend on the road the Briercrest volleyball teams return to the Margaret P. Reimer Memorial Gymnasium to host Grande Prairie Regional College.

After the first four weekends of the season the Briercrest women 's volleyball team sits in sixth place in the ACAC with a record of 5-3. This past weekend they handed Lakeland College their first loss of the season and look to do the same this weekend against Grande Prairie, which is one of only two remaing undefeated teams in the ACAC. Grande Prairie has a record of 6-0 and has been ranked second in the most recent CCAA polls.

After sweeping Lakeland over the weekend Briercrest men's volleyball maintains their 12th place CCAA ranking this week and with a record of 3-5 are tied for seventh place in the ACAC. They will be facing a Grande Prairie team that sports a 3-3 record and are one of the five teams that are  currently tied with Briercrest. This is an important weekend as both teams look to make ground on the top six teams in the conference.

The women open up the weekend against Grande Prairie Friday, Nov. 22 at 6:00 pm, followed by the men at 8:00 pm. The weekend continues on Saturday, Nov. 23 with the women playing at 1:00 pm, followed by the men at 3:00 pm.

Basketball

After two straight bye weekends the Briercrest basketball teams are excited to head to Edmonton to continue their first semester of the season.

Women's basketball will face two stiff tests this weekend as they face two of the top teams in the CCAA this weekend. They begin the weekend Friday against CCAA 13 ranked and ACAC fourth place Grant MacEwan University (5-1) and then finish up the weekend against CCAA number seven ranked and ACAC seventh rank NAIT Saturday afternoon. The women have started the season with a tough schedule so far, facing three of the top four teams in the ACAC standings in five of their first six games.

The two straight bye weekends didn't effect the men's basketball (4-2) place in the CCAA rankings as they maintained their tenth place ranking for the third week in a row. They will be facing two teams this weekend who sit just below them in the standings. They face Grant MacEwan University (4-2) Friday night and then NAIT (5-2) on Saturday afternoon.

The games this weekend are especially important for the standing as they are against northern division opponents which means each game is worth two points rather than one.

The women open up the weekend at Grant MacEwan Friday, Nov. 22 at 6:00 pm, followed by the men at 8:00 pm. The weekend continues on Saturday, Nov. 23 with the women tipping off at NAIT at 1:00 pm, followed by the men at 3:00 pm.
