Briercrest hockey met their match and came away with a 6-3 loss
The Briercrest Clipper Hockey team came out extremely strong in the first period getting their fire from their recent win this past weekend. The young Briercrest team went into the game with hopes of continuing their winning streak this weekend as they are evenly matched with the Keyano Huskies with three points this season and by winning they would jump away from the bottom slot in the ACAC. Half way through the first, Briercrest turned their game up even more and with a good play down low in the corner #17 Manuel Schellenberg was able to dish the puck to #7 Jacob Baribeau who in turn passed it to #4 Ricky Seidel who put it to the front of the net for Schellenberg to tap in to give Briercrest the lead. It wasn’t surprising to hear the crowd at Briercrest’s Barkman Arena go wild as they honored the team for their hard work not only in this game but for their hard work this entire season. With 5:48 left in the first Briercrest coughed up the puck which was costly for them as Keyano tied up the game. The Briercrest hockey team went into the dressing room energized and ready to devour the Huskies in the remainder of the game.
The second period was riddled with penalties for the Briercrest hockey team. Both teams came into the game with a high number of penalty minutes but the statistics showed Keyano to be much less disciplined overall than the Briercrest Clippers. It didn’t take long for the Huskies to capitalize on the plethora of the opportunities the Briercrest hockey team gave away. With 13:36 left in the 2nd period Keyano put their second goal away. Just under 10 minutes later the Huskies made it 3-1 as #21 Mac McMurphy buried the puck behind the Briercrest goaltender. While the 2nd period seemed full of mishaps for the Briercrest Clippers, #1 Connor Dobberthien stood out as an exceptional goaltender with poke checking skills that amazed all who watched.
It was an unfortunate ending for the Briercrest hockey team who was unable to hold the unruly Huskies back. The Huskies struck first in the 3rd period after a bad call put Briercrest player Luke Robitaille in the box and Keyano was able respond appropriately. Just a minute and a half later an unfortunate tip off the Briercrest D-man put another in the net for Keyano. The 3rd period quickly became heated with both teams spending their fair share of time in the penalty box. Briercrest was able to push back on the 5-on-3 as Baribeau made a nice pass to #26 Erik Robitaille who took a great snapshot to put another point on the Briercrest score sheet. Keyano responded with 6:24 left to give them a 6-2 lead. The Briercrest hockey team was able to end the game off strong with another great goal by Baribeau but unfortunately it wasn’t enough. Final score was 6-3 for the Keyano Huskies. Shots on net Keyano 45 and Briercrest 30.
Players of the game: Briercrest #7 Jacob Baribeau with 1 goal and 2 assists, Keyano #91 Dylan Rota with 1 goal and 1 assist.
