Exciting Edmonton games result in weekend split

Head coach Rod Adrian described the Briercrest men’s basketball games in Edmonton Nov. 22-23

Friday, Nov. 22 Briercrest 85 – Grant MacEwan 83:

A slow start banged some rust off and then we competed like we can and pulled off an exciting last second shot to earn the win.  Moving us to 5-2 on the season is nice, but to reach our highest potential we will focus on the little things for an entire game.  I am really pleased with our effort and chemistry on the team as we are playing like brothers, as we are resilient when down and fight back with teamwork. Player of the Game tonight, Brandon Friesen, hit a game winning shot after some fantastic teamwork that created a layup with two seconds to go, and then he closed out on MacEwan’s last shot to seal the win.  He had a double – double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Lucas Mannes led our team in scoring with 22 points, team leading eight assists, and six rebounds.  Christian Sacoman added 15 points, nabbed five rebounds, and led the team with four steals.  James Wohlgeschaffen scored 14 points, and ripped seven rebounds.  And a solid performance by Josiah Cockrill on both ends of the court with 11 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.  Contributions came from everyone who played.

Saturday, Nov. 23 Briercrest 83 – NAIT 85:

Same score today as yesterday, but a different result for us as NAIT played a complete game and closed our weekend with a loss.  Lessons learned – motivation strengthened – resolve to get better increased – brotherhood enhanced – moving on to next weekend.

Briercrest hosts St. Mary’s College next weekend to finish the semester of action. Game times at 8:00 pm Friday, Nov 29 and 3:00 pm Saturday, Nov. 30.
