Volleyball

After an unconventional bye-week, the Briercrest Men’s Volleyball team looks to start 2014 with 2 wins after finishing 2013 off with 4 straight wins over Lakeland and Grand Prairie. NAIT should prove to be a good test, however, as they come in with the same 5-5 record that the Clippers boast, even though the Clippers have won 22 sets to NAIT’s 17. Josh Senneker leads the ACAC with 26 serving aces and looks to put his hot hand back to work to start 2014 off with a bang for Briercrest (ranked 14th in the CCAA).

The Women’s Volleyball team was hard at work last week when they swept Lethbridge on the weekend taking each match 3-1. Leading the ACAC in serving aces with 37, Elly Wendel had 8 on the weekend to propel the Clippers to a 9-3 record which is good for 4th in the ACAC. NAIT comes into Caronport with a 7-5 record and are tied for 5th with King’s College and Old’s College. The Clippers (ranked 11th in the CCAA) will look to Brooke Peterson’s stellar defense (1st in the ACAC in digs with 207) to help them take out NAIT with a very real possibility at 2nd place in the ACAC with 2 wins this weekend.

The men take on NAIT at 8:00 pm on Friday and 3:00 pm on Saturday in the Margret P. Reimer Gymnasium. The women play at 6:00 pm on Friday and 1:00 pm on Saturday.

Basketball

Coming off of 2 heart breaking losses to Concordia and Keyano, the 7-5 Men’s Basketball team looks to right the ship against 5-8 Augustana and 5-6 Lakeland. The Clippers are hoping to ride Brandon Friesen’s 0.570 Field Goal Percentage (good for 2nd in the Southern Division) to 2 wins over 2 different sub-0.500 teams. With a split weekend, the Clippers hope that Christian Sacoman will continue his rain of 3s as he leads the ACAC with 41.

The Women’s Basketball team looks to rebound from 2 losses this past weekend to Concordia and Keyano respectively. The 2-10 Clippers are up for a challenging weekend as the travel to Augustana to take on the 12-1 Vikings and then head to Lakeland to match up against the 6-5 Rustlers. The Clippers are looking for strong defense from third year Claire Richardson who leads the league in blocks (21) and rebounds (107) to help them get a win this weekend.

The men play at 8:00 pm on Friday in Camrose and 3:00 pm on Saturday in Lloydminster. The women play at 6:00 pm and 1:00 pm on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Hockey

The Briercrest Hockey team lost 2 very close games this past weekend against a strong Augustana team and are looking to continue their momentum as they take on 4th place NAIT in Edmonton this weekend. The Clippers welcomed back Dirk de Waal, Branden Whitehawk and Taylor Epp into the lineup last weekend, all whom registered at least 2 points over the weekend, with Whitehawk notching 3 points. The Clippers will look to their newly minted top line to lead the attack against the Ooks who have allowed the least amount of goals in the ACAC (33) over the season. The Clippers play at 7:00 pm on Friday and 2:00 pm on Saturday in Edmonton.
