Double Briercrest Victory over Vikings

Posted: February 3, 2014

This past weekend the Briercrest volleyball teams headed out to Camrose for their last away league games of the season.

On Friday, though having a bit of a rough start, the girls were able to show their maturity and solid game preparation throughout the majority of the match. Consistent serving and a strong middle presence kept the Augustana Vikings at bay and unable to ever take control of the scoreboard.

An aggressive offense paired with a strong defense lead Briercrest to win the match in 3 sets.

Briercrest wins 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-23).

Player of the game was Brooke Peterson with a team high of 23 digs, whom is also currently leading the ACAC in number of digs/set.

Saturday’s match started out with a fairly easy set win over the Vikings. The second set then proved to be completely different, as the Vikings brought their game and pushed back on the visiting team. Unable to catch up on an initial Viking lead, Briercrest fell to Augustana in the second set 21-25.

With an increased amount of strong blocks and smart offense choices in the following sets, Briercrest was able to regain control of the match and, as a result, finish with their second win of the weekend.

Briercrest wins 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19).

Player of the game was Sam Zacharias with 8 digs and a team high of 17 kills.

The Briercrest Volleyball teams return for their last home league games of the semester to play the Olds Broncos. Women play at 6pm on Friday and 1pm on Saturday, with the Men’s Volleyball games to follow at 8 and 3pm respectively.

Games will be streamed online at www.sportscanada.ca and the Briercrest Volleyball facebook page.
