A Briercrest sweep kicks off the final weekend of volleyball
Briercrest pulls out an easy win against Olds, a variety of Briercrest players getting opportunities at shots to claim the game in sets 25-21, 25-13 and 25-14.
Joel Rosewarn and Mike Harrison provided a different pace to Briercrest’s starting line up in the first set. Olds caught up to Briercrest’s early 4-1 lead, and from there it was a game of matching one another point for point, all the way through 21-21. In between there Rosewarn and Josh Senneker both served consecutive aces. Jachin Karg served the set to a close and Briercrest blockers shut Olds’ attacks to gain the remaining few points, Briercrest taking the set 25-21.
The second set was a runaway set for Briercrest, their lead beginning early and extending throughout the set. Olds’ defense worked to keep up with Briercrest attackers who controlled most of the set, hammering down kills. Briercrest’s lead stretched as far as 20-10 and Olds never regained scoring potential. Steve Guenther laid down a few aces as did Cody Quiring, and Briercrest easily took the second set 25-13.
Olds earned their most significant lead of the game, pulling up 8-5 in the third set. Rosewarn was on a role, serving seven consecutive points, two aces in the mix to put Briercrest back in control 13-8. At that point there was some taunting excitement and Old’s was given a red card and Briercrest handed a yellow. Briercrest surged ahead and Keaton Strom had the final kill to end the game 25-14.
Dylan White was Olds’ player of the game with one ace, eight digs and nine kills. Cody Quiring was Briercrest’s player of the game with two blocks, two aces, five digs and 12 kills. This weekend is Cody’s last game of regular season playing as a Clipper. Thanks for all you’ve added to Briercrest athletics and all the best in the future!
Briercrest looks for a repeat of tonight tomorrow afternoon at 3:00pm in the Margaret P. Reimer Memorial Gymnasium. Come on out to watch Briercrest wrap up their season.
