The Briercrest Men’s Hockey team will play host to Red Deer in front of a large Youth Quake crowd and the Briercrest Men’s Volleybal team will host the ACAC Playoff Qualifiers and play against the Keyano Huskies and the Briercrest Basketball teams will enjoy their rest during their bye weekend.

Hockey

The Briercrest Men’s Hockey team always looks forward to playing at home on Youth Quake weekend and this year will be no different. Leading scorer Jacob Baribeau (6 +10 = 16) looks to lead the charge against the 4th place Red Deer Kings in the 2nd to last weekend of the season. The Kings are 17-10-1 while the Clippers have a 3-22-1 record. On paper, this game looks like a mismatch, however, the Clippers have been playing significantly better in the 2nd half of the season and the Kings are on a 3 game losing streak. The Clippers will need the YQ crowd to be behind them 100% to energize them to take down the Kings who boast an incredibly stingy defence, allowing only 82 goals on the season. The boys play at 7:00pm on Friday and 2:00pm on Saturday in the Barkman Arena.

Volleyball

The Briercrest Men’s Volleyball team will host the ACAC Playoff Qualifiers in Caronport and will take on Keyano on Friday at 8:00pm. The Clippers finished the season 10-8 while the Huskies finished at 6-12, however, both teams will be fighting for their lives to make it to Provincials in Red Deer later this month. Keyano has only won 28 matches this season, while the Clippers have won 41, but this same Huskies team beat Briercrest in the Bronze Medal game at Provincials last year, so the Clippers will not take this team lightly. The Clippers play at 8:00pm on Friday, while the NAIT Ooks and the King’s Eagles will play at 6:00pm on Friday. The winners of games A and B will both qualify for the ACAC Provincial Championships, and will play to determine seventh and eighth place seeding at the championship. This seeding game will take place at 2:00pm on Saturday in the Margret P. Reimer Memorial Gymnasium.
