Nolan Weinmaster, Briercrest College and Seminary’s women's volleyball coach, was selected as the 2013-14 ACAC women's volleyball coach of the year.

Weinmaster was presented the award at the annual ACAC women's volleyball All-Conference banquet at Grande Prairie Regional College Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014.

In his eighth year as head coach, Weinmaster has continued to work to build a team that is a consistent threat in the ACAC each year.

Weinmaster, along with his assistant coach Carlee Quiring, has worked hard to develop a strong culture on the team. The 2013-14 season has been a breakout year, where the team finished the regular season with a 15-5 record and a fourth place standing, which is the best standing since joining the ACAC during the 1996-97 season.

Though the team had several injuries throughout the season, coach Weinmaster was able to make adjustments and guide the team to a strong all-around game, highlighted by being second in the ACAC in kills/game and first in service aces.

“Weinmaster has not only worked to build a strong team on the volleyball court, but also in the classroom and to help develop well-rounded women who will succeed and have an impact in every aspect of life,” Briercrest Vice President of Finance and Operations Merrill Dyck said.

Weinmaster is a graduate of Briercrest and is currently working toward his MA in Management and Leadership from Briercrest. He played four years with the Briercrest men's volleyball team and was team captain and the most valuable player for the final three seasons of his playing career at Briercrest. He was named to the ACAC All-Conference Team in 2005-06.

He was hired as the head coach for the Briercrest women's program that fall and continues to improve the team and his coaching abilities. During the 2012-13 season Nolan completed his level three volleyball coaching certification through the National Coaching Certification Program.

Weinmaster has worked closely with the Saskatchewan Volleyball Association over the years, coaching 18U and 16U Saskatchewan girls’ teams as well as helping organize a coaching clinic in Caronport this past year. He also leads the co-ed volleyball portion of the Briercrest Sports Camp each summer.

He stays active in the off-season playing competitive beach volleyball, co-ed slo-pitch and spending time with his wife, Chrissy, and their two children.

“It is exciting to see what Nolan has done with the program at Briercrest since taking over, and we look forward to great seasons ahead!” Dyck concluded.
