Posted: February 21, 2014

An unfortunate slow start for Briercrest saw them down two goals at the half way point in the first period. After this huge wake-up call Briercrest began to turn up their game, yet two penalties brought the Clippers to a 5-on-3 penalty kill. While Briercrest were able to sustain themselves through the 5-on-3, the remaining 5-on-4 penalty kill gave Concordia yet another goal to add to their excess. With eight seconds left in the period Briercrest was sent to the power play after a bad holding call on Concordia, giving them hope for a fresh start in the second period as they start on the power play.

Briercrest came into the 2nd period ready to put numbers on the board. While Briercrest came out strong an unfortunate turn of events during the first half of the 2nd period put Briercrest into the penalty box. Concordia was able to capitalize on their power play with a great give and go putting them up 4 to 0. Briercrest continued to push as they were sent to the power play two minutes later. A huge rebound left off of #22 Branden Whitehawk’s shot left the net wide open for #18 Micah Abbott to put Briercrest’s first on the board. Close to the end of the period a slashing call on Concordia sent Briercrest back to the power play where #7 Jacob Baribeau got his first of the game, assisted by #17 Manuel Schellenberg and #27 Morgan McNeill. Briercrest went into the dressing room down by two but ready to get this game back in the 3rd period.

Just eighteen seconds into the 3rd period Concordia pushed hard and squeaked one past Briercrest goalie #1 Connor Dobberthien to put them up 5 to 2. Even though it seemed that all hope was lost, Briercrest continued to press on with energy to try and get the game back. Three and half minutes later Concordia took a four minute major with a high sticking call sending Briercrest to the power play. Two and half minutes into the power play, Baribeau was able to grab his second of the game assisted by #11 Josh Anderson and Schellenberg to put Briercrest back down only by 2. Even though Briercrest had a plethora of chances in the third, they were unfortunately unable to put the numbers on the board. Final score was 5 to 3 for Concordia . Shots on net Briercrest 30 and Concordia 32.

Players of the game: Briercrest’s #7 Jacob Baribeau with 2 goals and Concordia #23 Jordon Hoffman with 3 goals and 1 assist.
