Men’s basketball runs out of gas in playoff loss to Lethbridge

Briercrest College and Seminary men’s basketball lost 82-62 to Lethbridge College in the ACAC quarter-finals Friday afternoon.

The ACAC Championships are being hosted at Red Deer College this weekend and Briercrest will be facing Grant MacEwan at 1:00 pm MST on Saturday, March 1 in the fifth place qualifier game.

After building a 22-13 lead in the first quarter Briercrest fell behind 57-55 after three quarters and Lethbridge’s deep bench helped them build the lead to 82-62 in the fourth quarter.

Briercrest was led by James Wohlgeschaffen who had a team high 17 points, Ryan Penner and Josiah Cockrill’s eight rebounds and Ryan Fox’s game high five steals.

The key statistic of the game was shooting percentage where Briercrest shot 29.3 % to Lethbridge’s 42.5 %. Lethbridge also led the way with 51 rebounds and 10 assists. Briercrest had 17 steals to Lethbridge’s 14 and both teams had two blocks.
