The Briercrest College women’s basketball team is excited to announce the signing of University of Saskatchewan transfer Bailey Johnson for the 2014-15 season.

After competing for the U of S Huskies (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) during her rookie 2012-13 season, Johnson took the 2013-14 season off to recover from injury.

The 6-1 forward’s skill set was described by Dave Deibert of the Saskatoon Star Phoenix as, “looking as comfortable posting up inside as she does shooting three or making passes expected from a point guard.”

Briercrest women’s basketball coach Will Con is excited to add the Beatty, SK native to his first ACAC squad.

“Bailey will be a great addition to the team this upcoming year,” Con said. “She is an upbeat person that I believe will bring much joy and strength to the team this year. I believe she will shape the culture with her enthusiastic and wonderful personality.”

Transferring from a CIS institution Johnson adds high caliber pedigree to the women’s program.

“My high school team was the Kinistino Blues,” Johnson explained. “I then played with the Junior Huskies U17 program for three years and then U15 Team Saskatchewan Team before joining the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.”

Johnson has two highlights that stand out for her so far in her young basketball career.

“My favorite highlights of basketball so far are winning provincials with my high school team twice and playing my first ever CIS basketball game.”

Johnson is excited to be transferring to Briercrest for the coming season.

“The things I’m most excited for are the atmosphere and the love of Christ that is brought to the school,” Johnson explained. “And, a God-loving basketball team!!”
