Chicago, Illinois’s B.J. Pirus will bring experience and maturity to the Briercrest defensive corps for the 2014-15 season.

Briercrest hockey head coach Jamie Ramer is excited to have Pirus transfer to Briercrest this season.

“B.J. is an experienced defenseman who is excited to be a part of Briercrest and our hockey program,” Ramer said. “I believe what he has learned from experiences inside and outside the game will be an asset to our team and especially his desire to grow as player as well as in his faith.”

The 23 year old played his minor hockey in Chicago with the Chicago Fury U16 and then AAA midget with the Chicago Young Americans. He then moved north of the border to play Junior A with the Vaughan Vipers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, before moving on to the Blind River Beavers of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League and the Thunder Bay North Stars of the Superior International Junior Hockey League. After completing his junior eligibility he played for Liberty University of the ACHA for the 2012-13 season before having to sit out the 2013-14 season recovering from surgery.

The 5’ 11” defenseman’s career highlight came during his final year of junior hockey.

“My career highlight would be playing in the Dudley Hewitt Cup Regional tournament for Thunder Bay,” Pirus said.

Pirus looks forward to the full Briercrest experience.

“I'm really looking forward to being part of a building team and also building my faith to an unshakable level that will get me through anything,” Pirus explained.
