Get to know your RD - Josh Richert

Posted: August 14, 2014

Josh Richert, RD of Eliason and LA sat down to chat with me recently.

(Spencer in bold, Josh in regular text)

Josh, where are you from originally?
Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

What brought you to Briercrest?
I heard from a couple friends about Briercrest, but I also felt really called by God to come here.

I guess it's a good thing you came then. When did you graduate from Briercrest and what did you graduate with?
I graduated last year, 2014, with a BA Global Studies with a minor in Biblical studies.

What are you most excited for this year?
To meet all the students, and to get going with all my RAs... I don't know, I'm just really excited for this year, to step into this new role and to see what it has for me; to see how students will grow this year.

What is your vision for your dorms this year?
My vision for the dorms is to integrate them more with the rest of the dorms than they have been in the past, to make them more a part of the community because I feel like they may be cut off sometimes.

That's great. Completely unrelated, what's your favourite movie?
Pretty much The Dark Knight. The second one, not the third one. Also, Inception. When I saw that for the first time... wow. I also do really love Hook.

That's more than one movie, but I'll allow it. What's the best part about dorm life at Briercrest?
The best part about dorm life is that you get to live with a bunch of other guys who are looking at learning the same things and growing together. You get to struggle together and be challenged by each other, learn in ways that you wouldn't be able to in other contexts. You meet a ton of people, that's what I love too. You make life-long friends in dorm. It changes your life.

For the better?
For the better!

Awesome. Again, unrelated, but if you had $10,000 to spend on yourself, what would you do with it?
On myself? Oh...I don't know what I would do. I would fly somewhere. Definitely fly somewhere.

Oh fun! Like where?
Europe. Definitely Europe. Switzerland.

Okay, so you have $9,000 left after that trip...
No! You'd have like, maybe, $4,000 left.

It costs you $6,000 to fly to Switzerland?
What if I'm spending that extra money while I'm there? Like renting stuff...

Buying lots of Swiss Cheese?
Tons.

Speaking of cheese, are you a dog or a cat person?
Dog. Easy questions. Dogs are way better than cats.

What's the craziest thing you did as a student?
Stayed up all night!

Crazy. What's the best part about your job?
Meeting with people. That's what I think will be the best part will be. In the future, I hope that the best part is meeting with people. One-on-one times.

What's the sport you're worst at?
The worst? For sure basketball.

Do you just shoot bricks?
Yep. I do. Hockey I'm not very good at either. No, tennis. I'm worse at Tennis than I am at basketball.
