The Briercrest Sports Camps were once again a great success with campers from across western Canada arriving on the Briercrest campus from August 3-22.

The first 2014 Briercrest Sports Camp was the Volleyball Co-ed camp August 3-8.

Volleyball Camp Director and Briercrest women’s volleyball head coach Nolan Weinmaster was very pleased with how the week of camp went.

“We had an outstanding volleyball camp this year!” Weinmaster explained. “This was due to having a great group of mature alumni as coaches and also a fantastic group of campers. The skill level amongst the older females in camp was the highest it has ever been and it was great to see the campers pushing each other to be better throughout the week.”

“We had a challenging evening program with alumnus Paul Armbruster sharing great truth that the Lord had put on his heart as well,” Weinmaster continued. “We are aware of at least five campers who chose to follow Christ this week and invited Him to be their Savior for the first time. There were also numerous campers who left with a renewed commitment to a deeper relationship with their Lord.”

Weinmaster was thankful for the support of 10 current and past Briercrest volleyball players who came out to help for the week.

“We also benefited greatly from the vast experience of Derek Zacharias who was here to coach for the second year in a row. We also want to thank John Armstrong and the Gideon’s International for providing Bibles for all of our campers again this year! Praise God for a great week and for the work He did in another year of Briercrest Volleyball Camp!”

The next camp was girls’ basketball August 10-15, which once again had amazing support from current and past Briercrest community.

Girls’ Basketball Camp Director and Briercrest women’s basketball head coach Will Con was thankful for the 10 current and past athletes that helped him, along with the five community volunteers who also helped.

“Camp is this amazing experience when you get to see close to 50 young basketball players grow in their skill and love for the game,” Con explained. “It is always an exciting time watching young up and coming athletes take a hard look at what leadership in their day to day lives look like and how they will change their lives in the future along with their classmates and family.”

The final camp was boys’ basketball, which saw 87 campers and 13 coaches on the Briercrest campus August 17-22.

Boys’ Basketball Camp Director and Briercrest men’s basketball head coach Rod Adrian was excited with how the camp turned out.

“The camp was a great experience with improvement on the court, leadership knowledge gained off the court, and spiritual growth in a variety of ways,” Adrian explained. “This year our theme was FOCUS which directed our thoughts and actions toward the correct things so that players can perform at their best.  New friendships were formed, the competition was high, and the 36^th year of Boys’ Basketball Camp was another success.”
