Men's hockey returns home, women's volleyball hosts tournament and men's basketball with two games

Another week in Briercrest Athletics begins early with the men's basektball team playing a mid-week East-West intersquad game Wednesday before traveling to Saskatoon. Men's hockey hosts Red Deer this weekend and women's volleyball hosts a Thanksgiving tournament.

Hockey

After their longest road trip of the season the Briercrest hockey team is excited to return to the friendly confines of the Barkman Arena to face the Red Deer College Kings this weekend, their third weekend of the ACAC regular season. Red Deer is in their second season in the ACAC, and after finishing fourth in the ACAC last year they currently sit in sixth place with a 1-2-1 record. They are led by strong goaltending, allowing only eight goals in their first four games.

Game times will be 7:00 pm Friday, Oct. 10 followed by a 2:00 pm Saturday matinee.

Basketball

The men’s basketball team will be resurrecting the annual East-West intersquad game this year, with Main Street, Caronport as the dividing line. Game time will be at 8:00 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

The team will then travel to Saskatoon on Saturday, Oct. 11 to face Lakeland College at 6:30 pm at Aiden Bowman Collegiate.

Volleyball

The Briercrest women’s volleyball team will host a Thanksgiving tournament this weekend. They will host Medicine Hat College, Lakeland College, Providence University College (MCAC) and the University of Regina (CIS) in a five-team round robin tournament. Briercrest opens the weekend against Medicine Hat Friday, Oct. 10 at 3:30 pm, and then plays Lakeland at 8:00 pm. They continue the weekend against Providence Saturday, Oct. 11 at 1:30 pm and then conclude the weekend at 6:00 pm against the University of Regina.

Softball

Special note should be made of the Briercrest softball season ending with four awards being given to the Briercrest tournament, Coach Carlie Pagens named Coach of the Year, Kenzie Derdall as Rookie of the Year and Second-Team All-Star and Alexis Ferguson as Second-Team All-Star.
