Basketball

After a challenging weekend against CCAA number three ranked Lethbridge College the Briercrest basketball teams host their nearest ACAC neighbor in Medicine Hat College this weekend.

The Briercrest women’s basketball team will play host to a Medicine Hat squad who has a 3-3 record and currently hold the final playoff spot in the ACAC South division. All three of the Medicine Hat victories have come against non-playoff ACAC teams, so this will be an important test for the Briercrest team to show that they have grown this season and can indeed turn their season around and make a playoff push.

The men’s basketball team faces a grander challenge as Medicine Hat currently sits in second in the ACAC South division with a 5-1 record and are ranked 12th in the most recent CCAA National rankings. Their lone loss came against ACAC South third-place Red Deer College.

Game times will be Friday, November 14 at 6:00 pm for the women and 8:00 pm for the men, followed by Saturday, November 15 at 1:00 pm for the women and 3:00 pm for the men.

Hockey

Briercrest men’s hockey completes the first half of the 2014-15 ACAC regular season against an opponent that on paper should be their even match, in Concordia. Briercrest and host Concordia are tied in the ACAC hockey standings with 5 points each. Briercrest is the last team in the ACAC to have a bye week, so they will have played more games than any other team after this weekend of play. The series could come down to offensive fire power as Briercrest is currently tied for fifth in the ACAC for goals for with 40 while Concordia sits in dead last with 27. Concordia has the slight edge in goals against 67-64, but have played two games less than Briercrest. Briercrest will be led by rookie Aaron Armstrong who now sits in second in scoring in the ACAC with 18 points in 14 games. He is also riding a seven game point streak.

Game times are 8:15 pm on Friday, November 14 and 4:30 pm Saturday, November 15 puck-drop.

Volleyball

After playing their last home games of the first semester against Lethbridge this past weekend, the Briercrest volleyball teams take their shortest road trip of the season to Medicine Hat College this weekend.

After the weekend sweep of Lethbridge, the Briercrest women’s volleyball team dropped to 12th in the most recent CCAA national rankings and maintain top spot in the ACAC South division standings with a record of 7-1. They will be facing a Medicine Hat team who currently sits in last place in the ACAC South division, but have faced the number 2-5 ranked teams in the division to start the season.

The Briercrest men’s volleyball team will be facing a Medicine Hat team who currently sits in first place in the ACAC South Division standings (6-2), but are coming off a weekend at the hands of Red Deer College. A win over the CCAA fourth ranked Medicine Hat College would vault the 4-4 Briercrest team into second place above Medicine Hat. This will be an important weekend to show where teams rank as the first half of the season comes to a close in the coming weeks.

Game times will be Friday, November 14 at 6:00 pm for the women and 8:00 pm for the men, followed by Saturday November 15 at 1:00 pm for the women and 3:00 pm for the men.
