Third-generation Adrian following in footsteps at Briercrest

Posted: November 28, 2014

Brendan Adrian is a third generation Briercrest Clipper basketball player and son of Head Coach, Rod Adrian.  This is the first time that there has been a father/son on the same basketball team at Briercrest.  From a young age, he always had a desire to play basketball and following in his grandparents’ and parents’ steps he wanted to attend Briercrest.  His desire to follow God has been seen throughout his life as he led Bible Studies in his public high school experience, and upon attending Caronport High School captained teams.  Brendan has Briercrest in “his blood”.

Coach Adrian adds, “It has made me proud as a coach to see Brendan develop over the years into a solid young man on and off the court, and even more thrilling as a parent.  He has the ability to be “soft-hearted” as he cares deeply for others and tough when he is competing.”

Coach Adrian goes on to say, “This season has been one of tremendous growth as I asked Brendan to play out of his natural position and fill the need we had for him to play in the middle.  He has embraced the challenge and continues to improve getting stronger and more confident.  I am supremely confident in Brendan that what he puts his mind to he will be able to achieve.  This season he has improved immensely as he has logged major minutes and has been successful in guarding the opponent’s biggest players.”

Brendan is currently in his second year at Briercrest and like many student s is searching for God’s leading in what he should pursue career wise.  In the meantime, he is taking advantage of enjoying a great experience at Briercrest, contributing to the chemistry of the basketball team and the dorm.

Brendan’s favourite quote is, “Success is not fatal, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts,” by Winston Churchill.  As a team we see Brendan’s courage to continue in practice and in games as evidenced by his willingness to do anything for the team, his work ethic, and his passion to do his best.

Watch for Brendan making the hustle plays – diving for loose balls, boxing out, and working hard on defense.  He plays with a tenaciousness that is contagious and leads the team with his effort.
