Briercrest women's volleyball ranked 5th in Canada

The Briercrest College women’s volleyball team is ranked 5th nationally in the final CCAA rankings of the fall semester.

The Briercrest women’s volleyball team has a record of 12-1 to end the first semster, with their only defeat coming against the defending CCAA national champion Red Deer College. Red Deer has ranked first in the CCAA all season and is second in the ACAC South division with their only loss coming against Briercrest.

Briercrest currently sits atop the ACAC South division standings after sweeping third place Olds College this past weekend (Olds dropped from 5th to 8th in CCAA rankings witha  record of 8-4). The final ACAC institution in the CCAA ranking is ACAC North division's Lakeland College at 13th.

The 5th place ranking is the highest that the Briercrest women’s volleyball team has been ranked since head coach Nolan Weinmaster took the helm for the 2006-07 season.

Briercrest  has only dropped 16 sets this season (winning 34), and rank first in the ACAC South division in assists/set and service aces/set, while ranking second in kills/set and fifth in blocks/set. They are led by second-year outside hitter Samantha Zacharias (ranked first in the ACAC South with 3.9 kills/set and 1.9 service aces/set), Amanda Lundquist (first with 8.7 assists/set), Mikayla Reinhardt (ranked fifth with 3.1 kills/set) and Whitney Zylstra (second with 0.8 service aces/set and third with 0.7 blocks/set).
