Frimpong and Wanvig lead Briercrest in Saturday loss

Early Saturday afternoon, the Briercrest women’s basketball took on the Olds College Broncos in a fantastic game, but were unable to take the win today. The best quarter for Briercrest was the first as they played very well as a team together and improved greatly. The final score of the game was 103-63 for Olds.

The first quarter was an exciting one coming out strong with Briercrest’s Lauren Janzen putting on the first points of the game. The girls played the floor well and had good movement with the ball. Marisa Hartman and Hannah Klassen hit quick three pointers and the ending score for the quarter was 26-20 for Olds.

Briercrest came into the second quarter with enthusiasm and determination, playing strong defense. Brittany Boschman finished her shots with aggression as she faced against the Broncos tall posts. Tracy Frimpong had a strong offensive quarter and worked well at driving the ball to the net. The score at the end of the half was 54-32 for Olds.

Starting in the second half Briercrest continued to push hard, Amy Wanvig came into the quarter particularly strong and put up point and after point for her team. Abby Klassen, for the Clippers, was a tough defender to play against for Olds as the pressure she put on was proving to be successful. The end of the quarter had a final score of 79-52 for the Broncos.

The final quarter was a heated battle and quick paced game involving lots of pushing and constant ball movement. Hannah Klassen hit a three pointer from the left side of the court while Wanvig and Frimpong continued to do an excellent job in pressuring the posts on the Broncos team.

The Player of the Game for the Olds Broncos was number 11 Danesia Williamson and for the Briercrest Clippers was number 10 Tracy Frimpong who had 11 points, 2 assists and 4 rebounds. Amy Wanvig had a total of 18 points, Brittany Boschman had 7 rebounds and Hannah Klassen and Lauren Janzen each had 5 assists.
