Basketball

The Briercrest basketball teams will be hosting St. Mary's University this weekend, while also acknowledging their graduating student-athletes with presentations Friday night.

This should be an exciting weekend for both Briercrest basketball teams as they will be closely matched with the St. Mary's teams. On the men's side, both Briercrest and St. Mary's have their lone wins against each other and will be looking to keep themselves out of the basement on the ACAC South division. On the women's side, St. Mary's (8-12) will pose a stronger challenge as they are currently sitting in fifth place in the ACAC South, just outside of the playoff picture.

A special presentation will be held for graduating basketball student-athletes, Brooke Olmstead for women's basketball and Brandon Friesen for men's basketball, prior to the games on Friday night.

Game times will be Friday, Feb. 6 with the women at 6:00 and men following at 8:00 pm and the Saturday, Feb. 7 with women tipping off at 1:00 pm and men at 3:00 pm.

Streaming of the games can be found at acac.tv.

Hockey

The ACAC seventh-place men's hockey team (5-19-2) continues to make their push to try to move into the playoff picture after an exciting split with third-place Grant MacEwan (18-3-3) this past weekend. They handed Grant MacEwan only their third loss of the season!

Briercrest will look to get their first home wins of the season this weekend as they host the ACAC 9th-place Portage College (1-20-1) for a pair of games.

Game times at the Barkman Arena are 7:00 pm Friday, Feb. 6 and 2:00 pm Saturday, Feb. 7.

If you can't make it to the Arena you can watch online at acac.tv.

Volleyball

The Briercrest volleyball teams travel to Calgary to face SAIT, in what has major playoff implications for all four teams.

After splitting with Olds College this past weekend, the women's volleyball team (15-3) continues to hold down second-place in the ACAC South, but face a surging SAIT team (11-7) that is on a hot streak to begin the second semester and is trying to catche Briercrest as the semester draws to a close. Only one win behind CCAA top-ranked Red Deer College, Briercrest needs to keep winning in order to keep pace with them and have any hopes of moving into first place.

On the men's side, Briercrest (10-8) is currently in fifth-place in the ACAC South and just outside of a playoff spot but could leapfrog third-place SAIT (11-7) with a pair of victories this weekend. With only four more games remaining after this weekend it is tantamount that Briercrest sweep SAIT if they hope to make the ACAC playoffs.
