Posted: February 14, 2015

This afternoon the Briercrest men’s volleyball team faced against the Ambrose Lions again in the final home game of the season. The match went to three sets (25-8, 25-13 and 25-13) and ended in a win for Briercrest in an extremely quick 17-minute game! They played a strong match with great teamwork and a game that definitely left them excited for what would come next. It was a great final home game of the season!

Briercrest had the stands full for their final game which made getting excited about victories a much easier feat. The game started early on with a huge block by Joel Rosewarn and Zac Ens. Rosewarn quickly picked up two more blocks which made the coach proud. The first set was extremely one-sided for Briercrest and gave them a final score of 25-8 with the final point done on a kill by Jason Wendel.

Jonah Johnson’s serves were a great asset for Briercrest to come and win the set. While Ambrose played a better set in the second, Briercrest continued to have kills by their players Ens, Johnson and Rosewarn. Libero Jonathan Phillips played well by making good passes and digs to his team members. The home team won the second set 25-13.

The third set continued to go well for Briercrest with kills by a very stoic Calvin Sawatzky and Josh Wendel as well as multiple blocks by most of the team. The team was particularly excited when Nicholas Janke stepped on the court and placed serves over the court to make for great rallies between the teams, most of which ended in success. The third ended the match with Briercrest dominating all three sets, the final score was 25-13.

The Player of the Game for the Ambrose Lions was Dylan Squires and for Briercrest with a game high 11 kills and 3 blocks to go with 4 digs was Zac Ens. Carter Reimer had a game high 7 digs and 25 assists, Jonathan Phillips had 6 digs, Josh Wendel had 7 kills and Calvin Sawatzky had 3 kills for Briercrest.

The next and final game of the season will be on the road in Red Deer, Alberta against Red Deer College on Friday, February 20th at 8:00PM. If you are unable to make the game, the online broadcaster is available through acac.tv.
