Women's volleyball in Olds for ACAC Championships while basketball ends season in Red Deer

The Briercrest women's volleyball competes at the ACAC championships at Olds College this week, while the basketball teams end the 2014-15 season in Red Deer this weekend. For timely information on all Briercrest teams this year "like" Briercrest Athletics on Facebook.

Volleyball

The Briercrest women's volleyball team (18-6) are at Olds College for the ACAC championships this week. They begin the festivities tonight with the ACAC Awards Banquet. As the second ranked team in the ACAC south they face ACAC south King's (17-7) at 1:00 pm (MT) in what is sure to be an exciting game. The winner of that game will paly the winner of GPRC (18-6) and SAIT (14-10) at 6:00 pm on Friday, Feb. 27, with the winner of that game qualifying for the ACAC gold medal game (3:30 pm Saturday, Feb. 28). Both teams in the gold medal game qualify for th CCAA national championship at Édouard-Montpetit in Longueuil, QC March 11-14. Briercrest won the only meeting between the two teams 3-2 (25-19, 20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 13-15) in exhibition play earlier this year.

On the men's side, Briercrest (13-11) lost their final two games against Red Deer College and finished tied for fourth in the ACAC South with SAIT, but SAIT held the tie breaker, so Briercrest is left on the outside of the playoff picture this year

Basketball

The Briercrest basketball teams will travel to Red Deer College this weekend as they end the 2014-15 season on the road this weekend.

The last time that Red Deer and Briercrest met was right before Christmas break and were some very exciting games.

The Red Deer men's team is sitting at the top of the ACAC south division standings trying to hold off Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.

The Red Deer women's side (2-20) have their only two victories in tough fought games against Briercrest the last time these two teams met.

The Briercrest teams hopes to use this weekend to end the season on high notes.

Game times will be Friday, Feb. 27 at 6:00 pm (women) and 8:00 pm (men) and Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1:00 pm (women) and 3:00 pm (men).

Hockey

The Briercrest hockey team ends the 2014-15 season with a bye weekend and wait to see if their record of 7-21-4 will hold them in seventh place and one spot out of a playoff spot. Jamie Ramer has continued the building process in this his first season as head coach and helped lead Briercrest to their best season since 2008-09, the last time they made the playoffs.
