Women's softball hosted Calgary teams in beautiful home opening double header

The Briercrest women's softball team had a perfect September evening for a home opening double header, but dropped both games to Calgary based teams Friday, Sept 11, 16-7 to SAIT and 9-2 to U of Calgary.

SAIT vs BRIERCREST

After a scoreless first inning, SAIT pulled ahead to a 0-7 run lead. After a nice hit by Bryann Sieb, Briercrest scored 2 runs and looked to be regaining the momentum. Sieb made it home and made it a 7-3 game. After playing strong defense in the third inning, Briercrest looked to close the gap but were unable to score. After a couple runs for SAIT, Briercrest fell to another 7 point deficit. After 5 more runs for SAIT, the lead increased to 15-3, with only 1 out in the fourth inning. After a nice hit by Kenzie Derdall, Sieb was able to get home for another run. A huge triple by Alexis Ferguson got Derdall home, and Ferguson stole home to make the game 15-6. After a few switches in positions, Briercrest entered the fifth inning hoping to hold SAIT at 15. Sieb scored another run after a double by Kelsey Goertzen. The game ended after the fifth inning at a score of SAIT 16-7 Briercrest.

 

BRIERCREST vs UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY

 A scoreless start in the first inning for both teams. Kenzie Derdall caught a University of Calgary hit and got a runner out at third for the first two outs of the second inning, enabling Briercrest to hold U of C to one run. The score remained 1-0 for U of C at the end of the second. After another scoreless inning for Briercrest, the score was 4-0 for U of C at the end of the third inning. Jessica Bailey made it home in the fourth to make it 8-1. After allowing no runs for U of C in the fifth inning, Briercrest looked to make a comeback. Derdall made it home after a nice hit by Alexis Ferguson. After the fifth the score remained 8-2. Some great play by Briercrest held U of C to only one run in the sixth but were unable to score. The game ended after the sixth inning at a score of U of C 9-2 Brirecrest.
