Womens volleyball starts off strong but falls to SAIT in four

After winning the first set, Briercrest women’s volleyball team lost the next three to lose to SAIT 1-3 (25-20, 22-25, 20-25, 19-25).
The game started off with Briercrest and SAIT making key plays to keep the score close. Briercrest soon started to pull ahead with a 15-11 lead making SAIT call for a time out. With Briercrest’s energy high, they were able to keep a comfortable lead and win the first set 25-20.

The second set started off with important digs and blocks made by Briercrest keeping the score close. SAIT started to take the lead with 16-13 shortly after making Briercrest call timeout. Briercrest came back ready and started to rally back but fell short giving SAIT the second set with a score of 25-22.

Both teams came into the third set ready keeping, the score close throughout the set. Briercrest kept the ball moving and made great strategic plays. Near the end Briercrest started to fall behind and called a time out at 24-20. Briercrest was unable to come back and lost the third set 25-20.

SAIT brought their momentum into the fourth set. Both teams kept rallying back-and-fourth making for a tight and intense set. Briercrest fell behind 19-15 making them call a time out. With Briercrest looking for a come back to move forward they battled hard back. Unable to rally back, Briercrest lost 25-19 allowing SAIT to win the game.

Player of the Game was awarded to Mikayla Reinhardt by alumni Alli Dyck. Reinhardt had 9 kills, 1 service ace, and 11 digs in the game. Sam Zacharias had a team high of 11 kills along with 2 service aces with Ashley Zacharias and 16 digs with Kirsty Kindrachuk. Ashley Zacharias also had a game high of 33 assists. Karina Peterson had a game high of 4 blocks.

Briercrest and SAIT were close in stats with Briercrest having 36-34 assists, and 8-3 blocks. SAIT had 41-39 kills, 7-6 service aces and 73-61 digs.
