Klassen brings leadership and energy to women’s basketball team
By Dwight Olney
Third year guard, Hannah Klassen, lives life large. Coming to Briercrest to experience athletics and academics in a Christian setting, Hannah has fallen in love with the unique community of Caronport. Following on the heels of her brother Caleb, Hannah has brought a strong level of energy and leadership to the Briercrest women’s basketball program.
Studying English with a Kinesiology minor, Hannah feels some of the best friendships of her life have been forged on this campus. She is also quite vocal about the incredible privilege of being able to play the sport she loves with her dear sister, Abigael.
Hannah reflected on the nature of the women’s basketball team this year.
“I’ve never been on a team where we cared so much about each other,” Hannah said. “There is this strong unspoken bond between us.”
She is also excited that every player has bought into the team’s positive, self-sacrificing culture.
Academically, Hannah really wants to be impacted by what she is learning at Briercrest so that she might impact others with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Athletically, she wants to come to a point where there is no question about her confidence to perform consistently on the floor, helping to make her teammates better as well.
Hannah’s strengths lie in her dynamism and the powerful voice for good that she brings to the team. Her hustle on the court helps her to earn her fair share of the team’s rebounds, and her shooting ability off the drive, in the mid-range and beyond the arch make her a candidate for being one of the top scorers on this year’s team.Â
After school here, Hannah hopes to become a high school teacher and basketball coach. She looks forward to the chance to inspire young girls to dream big and get to the next level in basketball and life.
