Mens Volleyball falls to Red Deer in four

This weekend Briercrest Men’s Volleyball played against last year’s top team Red Deer College.

After winning the first set the Briercrest Men’s Volleyball team lost the next three to lose to Red Deer (25-21, 19-25, 19-25, 26-28)

The game started off close with each team battling point-for-point. Red Deer soon took the lead though at 9-5, causing Briercrest to call a timeout. Briercrest came back with new momentum allowing them to close the gap. Briercrest started to take the lead and kept it till the end giving them the set win of 25-21.

The second set started off with both teams battling back-and-forth making for an intense set. Red Deer soon started to take the lead with a score of 12-8, causing Briercrest to call timeout. Briercrest came back and started to chip away at the score but soon started to fall further behind with a score of 20-12 causing another timeout. The timeout gave Briercrest new momentum allowing them to close the gap but were unable to pull ahead giving Red Deer the second set with a score of 25-19.

Red Deer took an early lead in the third set. With Red Deer leading 13-6, Briercrest took a timeout. Briercrest came back with new momentum allowing them to chip away at the score, but fell short. Red Deer took the third set with a score of 25-19.

Briercrest came into the fourth set strong giving them an early lead. With Briercrest leading 6-1 Red Deer felt the pressure and called timeout. Red Deer came back with new energy and started to battle back. The set became tight with both teams battling point-for-point. With a tight long set, Briercrest fell 28-26, allowing Red Deer to win the game.

Carter Reimer was awarded Player of a Game. Reimer had a game high of 42 assists and a team high of 12 digs. Reimer also had 1 kill. Taylor Klassen had a team high o of 13 kills. Mitch Erickson had a game high of four service aces and a team high of 12 digs.

Briercrest dominated in the stats category with 48-46 for kills, 44-42 for assists, 10-2 for service aces and 65-59 for digs. Red Deer had 6-4 for blocks.
