Briercrest men’s volleyball team plays against Lethbridge College this weekend.

Briercrest lost the first set but won the next three giving them the match win against Lethbridge (20-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-16).

Lethbridge took an early lead to the first set of the match. Briercrest called timeout with a score of 10-5 to try to gain some momentum. Briercrest started to chip away at the score in hopes of gaining the lead. Briercrest called timeout again at 19-14 but were not able to gain the lead afterwards. Lethbridge won the first set 25-20.

Briercrest moved the ball around well and made key defensive plays giving them an early lead in the second set. Lethbridge called a timeout at 15-10 to try and gain momentum again. Lethbridge was able to catch up making it an intense point-for-point set. Briercrest took a small lead that led them to the end of the set with a score of 25-23.

Briercrest carried their momentum over to the second set giving them another early lead. Lethbridge felt the pressure and called timeout at 11-7 for Briercrest. Lethbridge chipped away at the score but were unable to close the gap fully. Briercrest took the third set with a score of 25-17.

Briercrest took the lead once again in the fourth set. After falling behind Lethbridge called timeout with the score of 11-6. Briercrest kept the ball moving and made key defensive plays giving them a steady lead. Lethbridge called timeout again at 21-15 for Briercrest in hopes of being able to keep the game alive. Unable to gain momentum, Briercrest won the set and the match with a score of 25-16.

Taylor Klassen was awarded Player of the Game by Korey Reimer. Klassen had 6 kills along with game highs of 13 kills and four service aces. Joel Rosewarm and Dalon Hordyk had a game high of 13 digs along with Reimer Carter having a game high of 35 assists.

Briercrest dominated in the stats category with 43-41 kills, 40-36 assists, 6-5 service aces and 69-59 digs. Lethbridge had 5-4 blocks.
