Fast, Faster, Friesen

That blur you may have glimpsed racing up the ice at the Barkman arena is speedy new recruit Josiah Friesen. Hailing from Surrey, British Columbia, Josiah joined Briercrest after a very successful junior career on Vancouver Island where his Campbell River Storm were Western Canadian champs.

He talked about his decision to come to Briercrest.

"I was contacted by [coach] Jamie in the summer about coming here to play hockey,” he explained. “I kept praying about it and it kept kicking around in the back of my mind as a really cool opportunity."

Josiah is enrolled in the Certificate of Biblical Studies program at Briercrest, and is taking classes in Kinesiology as well. He plans to complete a Kinesiology program with the goal of working in physiotherapy.

He has valued the approach to sport taken at Briercrest.

"What sets Briercrest's hockey team apart is our mission, we care about the spiritual well-being of ourselves and our opponents and actively pursue conversations that encourage spiritual growth."

Josiah not only has uncommon speed on the ice, but also brings tenacious forechecking and a scorer's touch. He plays with intensity and excels at arriving at the puck in a grumpy mood.

A highlight for him has been the 7-3 win against SAIT in which he scored his first ACAC goal.

Briercrest is proud of Josiah and wishes him every success in his future endeavours.
