Briercrest women’s volleyball came into their final Friday night home game of the season standing in first place in the ACAC South. Graduating athlete and team captain, Mikayla Reinhardt was honoured and recognized tonight after the game against Ambrose University.

Briercrest swept Ambrose in three intense sets (25-21, 28-26, 25-17).

Intensity was high on the court with both teams rallying back and forth making for a tight score. Briercrest then started to execute key defensive and offensive plays allowing them to pull ahead. Ambrose called timeout at 14-10 to try and kill Briercrest’s new found rally. Unable to, Ambrose called timeout at 18-13 again. This timeout did the trick as Ambrose started to close the gap on Briercrest. Briercrest was able to stay strong though and held them off till the end. The set ended with a score of 25-21 for Briercrest.

The second set was a long and close thriller. Ambrose took a quick lead on Briercrest causing them to take a timeout at 4-7. Ambrose kept a steady lead for quite awhile but Briercrest then kicked it up a notch and started to close the gap. They were able to tie the set forcing Ambrose into a timeout at 14-14. Ambrose took advantage of their timeout and came back swinging hard. They were able to take a small lead causing Briercrest to then take a timeout at 17-19. Briercrest responded well to their timeout and pulled ahead causing another timeout for Ambrose at 20-21. Ambrose was unable to stay ahead of Briercrest and fell 28-26 giving Briercrest their second set win.

Briercrest came into the third set with high energy giving them an early lead. Ambrose called an early timeout at 7-4 in hopes of being able to gain their own momentum. Briercrest continued to make key defensive and offensive plays allowing them to maintain their comfortable lead. Ambrose felt the pressure of needing to force another set in order to win causing them to call timeout again at 16-11. Fortunately for Briercrest, their momentum was strong and unbreakable allowing them to keep their lead till the end giving them a set and match winning score of 25-17.
